Virtue and Ethics: When Professionalism is Guided by Conscience (Sunday of Compassion)
In medicine, expertise is honed over years, through knowledge, experience, and countless hours spent in the operating room. However, to truly embody the role of a physician, technical skills alone are not enough; a strong sense of ethics and responsibility are equally crucial and must be cultivated alongside professional competence.

Y DUC - WHEN SKILL IS GUIDED BY CONSCIENCE...
In medicine, expertise is honed over years, through knowledge, experience, and countless hours spent in the operating room. However, to truly embody the role of a physician, technical skills alone are not enough; a strong sense of ethics and responsibility are equally crucial and must be cultivated alongside professional competence.
For Dr. Vương, each patient or client who comes to her is not simply a case to be treated. They also bring with them beliefs, expectations, and sometimes, even insecurities that have existed for many years. Therefore, before any intervention, what is carefully considered is not only what can be done, but also what is truly necessary and beneficial for the patient.
- Some surgeries require meticulous attention to detail.
- There are situations where a long-term plan is needed instead of an immediate solution.
- And there are also desires that need to be addressed with the clear-sightedness of expertise, rather than being met with a simple, uncritical agreement.
That's when medical ethics become the highest standard of professionalism – ensuring that competence is not driven by ambition, that technical expertise serves the interests of patients, and that beauty is always considered in relation to safety, appropriateness, and long-term well-being.
Perhaps the value of a doctor lies not only in the results they achieve, but also in the integrity they demonstrate in every decision, the dedication they show in every endeavor, and the responsibility they bear towards those who place their trust in them.
That same spirit continues in the "Sunday of Compassion" initiative, where the values of the medical profession are extended beyond the clinic to reach those in need of an opportunity to change their lives.
Expertise can certainly take a doctor far, but it is medical ethics that ultimately determines how long they will stay in the profession and what legacy they will leave behind.
